This residence is for a young family that entertains guests frequently, and homeschools four small children. The layout is an “upside-down” house on a downsloping lot that separates functions by age and privacy - adult bedrooms and public gathering spaces are on the main level, connected by central “veins” of circulation. Two primary bedrooms are on either side of the Great Room and Kitchen. Downstairs is more family-oriented: family room/homeschool with yard access and kids’ bedrooms are on the lower level.

The design is driven by a cubic grid which follows the form and proportions of a leaf and its veins. Views and connections are both orthogonal and angular; a 45-degree angle grid connects disparate parts of the home.

A covered, heated dining deck enables year-round entertainment.
