Saddleback House
Truckee, CA
Project Architect: Josh Horne, AIA
Interior Design: Josh Horne, AIA
Builder: Matthias MedeThis house is a special residence for a family with four small children, all very young. The layout is an “upside-down” house that separates functions by age and privacy - adult Bedrooms and functions are on the main level and at opposite ends of the building, separated by the central “veins” of circulation to the Garage, Kitchen, and Great Room. Downstairs is more family-oriented: family room with yard access and kids’ bedrooms are on the lower level.
The house’s overall design is driven by a cubic grid which follows the form and proportions of a leaf and its veins. Views and connections are both orthogonal and angular. This implied 45-degree angle grid connects disparate parts of the home. Expected completion and photography: March 2025.
